Eskom and energy and chemical enterprise, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively discover and investigate potential long term liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

This is based on a joint statement by the two businesses, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to determine the likely volumes that South Africa needs to establish a practical LNG import market place, combined with the enabling infrastructure, and may be facilitated by govt-to-authorities relations where by important."

"This initiative focuses on working with gas for power generation to provide crucial base load electrical energy and position gas to be a essential enabler of re-industrialisation, whilst also guaranteeing continued supply to the industry by unlocking world wide LNG resources.
